Buying secondhand swimwear is a great way to buy luxury items at a portion of the retail price, and The Real Real one of my favorite places to do so. Almost every item comes with tags, which means it is most likely have never been worn. The Real Real authenticate their item selection, so you can feel comfortable when making your purchase.
Just like thrifting, you have to take your time and browse all over the website (or their store locations) to find the perfect piece for you. I recently bought for swimsuits, and I will share with you my thoughts and feedback for each purchase.

Where To Find Secondhand Swimwear That You’ll Love
Marysia One Piece
My first purchase was a Marysia One Piece strapless swimsuit. I love the brand’s iconic scalloped edge, and I found a one piece strapless swimsuit in black and tan color. The fabric has a laser cut detail with a tan lining, and a front opening for a really cute neckline. It came with detachable straps, for a more secure fit, but I prefer wearing it without them. It has a full bottom coverage and good tummy control. I loved this swimsuit, so if you are looking for a Marysia one-piece, you can definitely check in sites like The Real Real to see if you find one second hand.
Onia One Piece
The Onia one piece fits very flattering. The color, print and silhouette are classic, so it can definitely be worn season after season. This style is still available in various sizes at The Real Real. It’s estimated retail price is $195, and you can score yours at $75 (with additional 20% off using their discount code REAL).
Solid & Striped One Piece
I L-O-V-E-D this one piece swimsuit!!! The fit, the structure, the color, everything about it is perfect! If you don’t find one at The Real Real or at ThredUp, you should buy one at their store anyway :), they have sustainable options. The style I got was The Spencer, and OMG, it’s the perfect one piece. That’s all I have to say, I will definitely will buy again in other prints & colors.
Beach Riot One Piece
This one piece has a lower cut on the hips, a deep neckline opening with a neck tie detail, which for me, was the highlight of the piece. It’s a halter one piece with a twist, literally. Loved the fit, very flattering and the fabric felt very soft to the skin.
In conclusion…
Buying second hand, thrifted or vintage pieces can definitely have a positive impact on the environment. Also, almost always, swimsuit pieces that have never-been-worn can be found. The Real Real says that for each piece of swimwear bought second hand 5.28 liters of water and 1.82 kilograms of carbon are saved, and it’s one of my favorite places to buy secondhand swimwear.
